A 27-metre walkway is about to connect the Plaça de la Unió Europea with the site of El Castell
The old town of Finestrat is gradually making its way into the wide range of tourist attractions in the Marina Baixa. It is increasingly common to see visitors walking through the narrow and winding streets that run through what was once an Arab farmhouse. Even travelers who drag their wheeled suitcases through the steep streets to access some of the colorful houses on both sides and which are now converted into tourist accommodations are beginning to attract no attention.
There have been many years of effort to bring this picturesque old town out of anonymity, which is barely six kilometres away from La Cala beach. It is also true that there has been an evolution in the tastes of tourists who visit the Costa Blanca. In this context, and taking advantage of the European aid from the Next Generation Plan, a project has been designed to make it easier to access one of the highest and most difficult to reach enclaves, such as the area of El Castell, where the Hermitage and the Amphitheatre are erected and, from where you can get some of the best panoramic views, not only of the municipality, with the bell tower of its church on one side and the imposing Puig Campana, on the other, but of the entire bay that extends practically to the entrance to Alicante.
With this new footbridge, which is very close to opening to the public, the Plaça de la Unió Europea, which is located at the entrance of the municipality and consists of a large underground car park, and the El Castell area, which is at its highest point, will be joined. The elevator is already being placed on a concrete structure weighing twelve tons. It is stone-coloured, to be integrated into the landscape, and a 27-metre metal walkway, brown in colour and with bluish glass to combine with the colour of the sky. In this way, residents and visitors will be able to easily reach the Hermitage, the Auditorium and the Municipal Library, while they will be able to enjoy the Mediterranean garden that surrounds this beautiful corner of Finestratí.
