Autumn is ideal for discovering treasures such as the Els Molíns Aqueduct and the Llavador, in the Font del Molí

These first days of autumn are ideal for doing small routes. The temperatures are beginning to be pleasant, although perhaps not so much as to tackle long walks, with steep slopes; but it is for comfortable walks, which are surrounded by nature, and allow, at the same time, to discover small treasures that are intimately linked to the history of the villages. This is the case of the Els Molíns and Llavador Aqueducts, which are located in the natural area of the Font del Molí, where the pipes of the water that comes from the bowels of Puig Campana are located.

Walking along the aqueduct allows you to see in situ how our ancestors lived and how water has always played a fundamental role in the development of the life of the villages. In this place are a good part of the orchards that provided food to the Finnish population. Its enclave is of great beauty, as it is located at the foot of Puig Campana, so the route slides through one of the places of greatest scenic value in the municipality. Although it is no longer used, it was once used to conduct water from the Font del Molí to the farmland and to run the mills around it. The chronology of this canal begins in the Islamic period, continues through the medieval period and reaches the modern period.

The llavador, much more recent than the aqueduct, but equally unused today, is located next to these canals and in the middle of the terraces of fruit trees that still exist in this area. Its current view differs quite a bit from when it was built. As in almost all municipalities, it was located in the place closest to the fountains. Today the place is ideal, but yesterday, when it did perform a real function, it was full of inconveniences, since its distance from the urban center forced women to carry the weight of wet clothes for hundreds of meters. Fortunately, today it is in disuse and, currently, it is only part of the popular architecture and hydraulic heritage of the province of Alicante.

Both constructions are included in the Catalogue of Protected Cultural Heritage Assets and Spaces.
