The mild autumn temperatures invite you to discover the beauty of the old town of Finestrat
Strolling through the historic centre of Finestrat is a pleasant experience in these first days of autumn, when the temperatures become mild and the sky shines an intense blue. The visual clarity, typical of this time of year, invites you to take high-quality photographs in an environment of great beauty. The first impact, when approaching this town in the Marina Baixa, are the Hanging Houses, which rest on a large rock and draw the silhouette of the lower part of the municipality. They are especially bucolic when illuminated, as the sun disappears from the horizon.
The exterior façade gives rise to a mosaic of narrow streets, interwoven with each other, through small squares, which add to the historic center the plus that gives urbanity the small-scale reproductions of nature in the form of fountains and trees.
Winding through these corners of colourful houses you will access the heart of the historic centre, emerging in the Plaça de La Torreta the main façade, with its staircases, of the Church of Sant Bertomeu, blessed on 24 August 1751. This construction is listed as an Asset of Local Relevance in the General Inventory of Valencian Cultural Heritage. Inside, original paintings have recently been discovered in the central nave, hidden under a layer of plaster, possibly from the 18th century.
The church is also accessed through a side door that leads to the Plaça de L'Ajuntament and from there the ascent to the upper part of the municipality begins through El Carreró, a passageway of stairs that in the Middle Ages was the main portal to access the place of El Castell, possibly one of the most beautiful environments in Finestrat and where the Hermitage of Santíssim Crist del Remei is located, which was built in 1924 by popular subscription and is, without a doubt, one of the most emblematic buildings of the municipality.
