The olive trees recall the agricultural past of Finestrat
It is difficult to imagine the agricultural past of Finestrat with the eyes of the 21st century, however, not many decades ago, the economy of the municipality came from the primary sector. Now, the olive trees that are planted on the terraces are testimonial, although there are still families who continue to collect olives at this time to make oil for family consumption.
The olive tree is also a tree of great beauty, which is why it is used to decorate gardens and public spaces and, more specifically, the roundabouts on the local roads of the municipality. But beyond aesthetics, the tree follows the natural cycle and produces its fruits, which is why this year the Department of the Environment has offered residents in Finestrat the possibility of harvesting olives for their own consumption.
If the olive tree is beautiful, the oil mill is also beautiful. In Finestrat there are no longer any olive mills. In the seventies of the last century the last one disappeared. Today you can see the machinery with which the olives were squeezed and taken out in the oil at the roundabout at the entrance to the town of Finestrat.
